  Breeder's Description - 'Blueberry'
"We developed Blueberry from different new genetic lines, genetics that are unique to Europe. Not only Blueberry, but also Blue Velvet and Flo are developed from totally new genetics. These seed strains are of the highest quality and have not been grown in Europe before. Blueberry is a mostly Indica (80% Indica, 20%Sativa) strain, that dates to the late 1970's. A large producer under optimum conditions. A dense and stout plant with red, purple and finally blue hues, that usually cure to a lavender blue. The finished product has a very fruity aroma and taste of blueberry. It produces a notable ...continued

I grew out only 10 seeds, and ended up with 5/5. I then grew out larger numbers of clones of each mother to decide, which mother(s) would continue in my growroom.

I have logged those selections in a thread here at OG. In quick summary, I was graced with a range of phenos which I believe represent

Blueberry – DJ Short

These plants were a present from a very good friend of mine. The plants started off short and squat but then started to stretch a little, especially in bud. I was using a 1000 watt HPS for veg and for bud and grew in Promix soil. The nutrient in veg was 'Total Nutrition' and in bud part A-B solution from a local hydro store here in steel town called 'Happy Hydroponics'.

The plants over-all appearance was very beautiful and a deep emerald green. It was grown in five gallon buckets and I had a total of four Blueberry and two Northern Lights. The Blueberry finished in 42 days, but I let them go an extra 4 just to make sure. They have an extremely short bud time which would make it a great choice for a perpetual garden.

The seeds a friend of mine ordered from DJ Short and he sprouted them. When I seen them early in veg I couldn't believe the consistency of the plants. Each one looked almost identical with only one being much taller than all the rest. Out of 10 seeds we got 4 females and 6 males. All males were destroyed immediately and the remaining females grew vigorously and strong. I wish I would have kept a male now as I would love to produce more seeds. I received a clone off my friend and grew it into my mother. I have grown this exact strain twice now and have had similar results both times.

The buds were extremely dense although the finished buds were half the size of my Northern Lights. I wouldn't say it is a great yielder, but the potency is one of the best we have tried to date. Also, the taste was out of this world! Not quite like blueberries, but very fruity. I would say this is the best tasting bud I have ever experienced. I would have given it a perfect 10 on taste, but I reserve that for perfection which I think is close to impossible to achieve.

The plants did not like too much nutrients and seemed to respond negatively to the initial dose. I fertilized every watering with each week giving it a break to pure water. The fertilizer was half dose and the plants seemed to like this best. About the middle of bud the plants started to yellow up a little more than I would have liked. Next grow I am going to add a tablespoon of Dolomite Lime per gallon of Promix to act as a buffer. I think PH in the later stages prevented the buds from getting to their full potential. These plants would be a great strain to grow many crammed under one light as they don't bush out too much and produce six or seven big cola's without clipping. I didn't clip these plants once and they grew in their natural form. The stems from the start were red even when only clones and the buds turned a purple/grey at maturity. This was a very pretty plant indeed.

I had a mite problem with the very first crop I did with these plants. This time there were no mites to be seen. To prevent them I sprayed with a diluted insect soap mixed half with water, half with soap, once a week to prevent infestation and it worked great. It seems these plants attract mites like bees on honey as the other strains in my first grow had hardly any mites at all. It seemed the mites just loved these plants and stayed as close to them as they could. I think this is due to the plant not being very resinous in bud. The buds were covered in almost a dry crystal, unlike the Northern Lights which were extremely sticky. I guess the dry crystal does not give the problem of travel for the mites that the more resinous plants would.

The buds glistened like diamonds in the light produced by the 1000 watt HPS, and in the end had great bad appeal. I now know that stickiness and potency have nothing to do with each another as this plant knocked us out with a heavy couch-lock stone. After cutting and curing it seems the plants got stickier and now I would say is average in resin production, but only after cutting and drying. Taste is very smooth and sweet. I wouldn't say it tastes like blueberries but is definitely very fruity. I was told the blueberry taste comes with age, but it seems it never stays around long enough for me to find out.

Over all I would say this is the best plant I have grown to date. It has a great smooth taste that makes you come back for more. It is a little on the tricky side to grow due to the sensitivity to nutrients and its urge to attract mites. No mold problems noted, although my humidity never goes above 60%. As I stated above it grows nice cola's and doesn't bush out too much so that many plants can be crammed under one light. I could have put many more under mine. I think if grown properly it would be a great producer and supply an extremely quick turn around. I will definitely grow this strain again, but with some other bigger producers. I think the Blueberry is my personal favorite due to its couch-lock effects, non-paranoia type buzz and superb taste. It will always find room to have at least one growing for personal. I would hate very much to loose this strain.
