People WANT Facebook - To Show Off Their Stuff

Folks use Facebook simply to be able to boast about who they are and what they have done. Its not 'Community' thinking, it is "I am better than you' thinking. Or "Woe is me" thinking....here come share my sob story and tell me how brave I am for 'sharing'. This is what it appears to have become (and while not what it was intended for originally....but 'Community' sprang up) since its inception. A way for people to state - through Images and Text and Advertisements - "This is who I want you to think I am".
Facebook took that and ran with it, as would ANY company in that position. You know the position - The one where there is no 'Business Model' to get it going, because they were going to rely on 'Advertisers to foot the bill'. One of the reasons I got out of the 'Valley was the simple fact I did not see a Business Model that was sustainable beyond the initial release. All of these 'Social' Applications are ENTERTAINMENT based. Ask Hollywood how hard it is to stay relevant in ENTERTAINMENT, So Facebook had to change. It had to find a way to justify its existence in the realm of things. So it went looking for something to sell, and it found all that 'meta-data' on the people that use its 'Service' (Its just an entertainment portal...lets be clear ) as valuable. So it initially gave it away to whoever asked. Then, a lot of people started asking. And they started charging for the data they rightfully collected (READ the EULA). That becomes their business.
I am suggesting a way to change this. To remove the control (facebook) of the medium to the local system.
A sketch of this idea is basically the peerage system. 'Windows for Workgroups' type of communications/broadcast. We have this available now. If we could construct an engine to interpret certain areas (images are recognized and displayed as such, text/html/jscript/whatever as such also) from a folder the user shares to the engine (not to the web, not in the Net...just to the engine). The engine could then post this to a local service (RSS maybe?) when updated, and the 'Pages' would be updated that broadcast this information.
I know the issue then becomes "No one is seeing my stuff' because of the way FB counts 'visits', and reality being that all those 'friends' aren't really concerned with what you got going on. Unless it boosts their status or social position.
Again, just a rough script. If everyone ran the engine (which would be local and send bursts updates via RSS(?)) then subsciption to the 'page' of your friends would be similar to what you have on FB, without a real way to track it (you can track what you do locally...) for some "Evil COrp" company.
*(Questioning if I should drop this in Technology group...)

Topic: Cannabis vs HEMP - The Debate Continues
This is an entry in Wikipedia:
The genus Cannabis was formerly placed in the Nettle (Urticaceae) or Mulberry (Moraceae) family, and later, along with the Humulus genus (hops), in a separate family, the Hemp family (Cannabaceae sensu stricto).[21] Recent phylogenetic studies based on cpDNA restriction site analysis and gene sequencing strongly suggest that the Cannabaceae sensu stricto arose from within the former Celtidaceae family, and that the two families should be merged to form a single monophyletic family, the Cannabaceae sensu lato.

Various types of Cannabis have been described, and variously classified as species, subspecies, or varieties:

plants cultivated for fiber and seed production, described as low-intoxicant, non-drug, or fiber types.
plants cultivated for drug production, described as high-intoxicant or drug types.
escaped, hybridised, or wild forms of either of the above types.

Cannabis plants produce a unique family of terpeno-phenolic compounds called cannabinoids, some of which produce the "high" which may be experienced from consuming marijuana. There are 483 identifiable chemical constituents known to exist in the cannabis plant, and at least 85 different cannabinoids have been isolated from the plant. The two cannabinoids usually produced in greatest abundance are cannabidiol (CBD) and/or Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), but only THC is psychoactive.Since the early 1970s, Cannabis plants have been categorized by their chemical phenotype or "chemotype", based on the overall amount of THC produced, and on the ratio of THC to CBD. Although overall cannabinoid production is influenced by environmental factors, the THC/CBD ratio is genetically determined and remains fixed throughout the life of a plant. Non-drug plants produce relatively low levels of THC and high levels of CBD, while drug plants produce high levels of THC and low levels of CBD. When plants of these two chemotypes cross-pollinate, the plants in the first filial (F1) generation have an intermediate chemotype and produce intermedite amounts of CBD and THC. Female plants of this chemotype may produce enough THC to be utilized for drug production.

Whether the drug and non-drug, cultivated and wild types of Cannabis constitute a single, highly variable species, or the genus is polytypic with more than one species, has been a subject of debate for well over two centuries. This is a contentious issue because there is no universally accepted definition of a species. One widely applied criterion for species recognition is that species are "groups of actually or potentially interbreeding natural populations which are re-productively isolated from other such groups."[32] Populations that are physiologically capable of interbreeding, but morphologically or genetically divergent and isolated by geography or ecology, are sometimes considered to be separate species. Physiological barriers to reproduction are not known to occur within Cannabis, and plants from widely divergent sources are interfertile. However, physical barriers to gene exchange (such as the Himalayan mountain range) might have enabled Cannabis gene pools to diverge before the onset of human intervention, resulting in speciation. It remains controversial whether sufficient morphological and genetic divergence occurs within the genus as a result of geographical or ecological isolation to justify recognition of more than one species.

-------------------------------------------
From this information we can see that Cannabis was initially the ONLY designation for the plant, Regardless of how it appeared or what it produced. However we have since come upon many different definitions, but have also separated the phenotype's into separate distinctions:
It was initially classified as part of the Nettle / Mulberry family of plants. After more examination and other examples of different flowering/vegetative states, the desingation was separated again for Hops as well as Hemp. Hops is a Member of the same family of plants as Hemp and Cannabis Sativa/Indica.
Hemp is a part of the GENUS of Cannabis, and a close member (like a first cousin) to Cannabis sativa/Indica. However the plain statement of Hemp as a plant is further defined:
The term hemp is used to name the durable soft fiber from the Cannabis plant stem (stalk). Cannabis sativa cultivars are used for fibers due to their long stems; Sativa varieties may grow more than six metres tall. However, hemp can refer to any industrial or foodstuff product that is not intended for use as a drug. Many countries regulate limits for psychoactive compound (THC) concentrations in products labeled as hemp.

Therefore, Hemp is NOT Cannabis Sativa/Indica. It has been bred solely for the fibrous properties Hemp IS Cannabis, if you are looking at the Phenotype (the upper portion of the family tree, closest to the root of the tree in designation) Cannabis as a phenotype covers MANY other areas as we have already seen. So, theoretically you could manufacture a product using HOPS and Mulberry, and state *(Technically) "This product is derived from legal Cannabis " without being false in the statement. That does not mean it will function and react in the same manner as a product made from a true Cannabis Sativa/Indica plant.
When a company states "We use Cannabis to make our products" Read the fine print. CBD extract is good, however its not 'medicine' because CBD is found in MANY other plants. Cannabis Sativa/Indica varieties (Cannabis SI) produce CBD in conjunction with THC (CBDA and THCA respectively) and can ONLY be found in a true Cannabis SI plant. Not in the family of the plant, but the actual plant itself.

I have beat Cancer so many times, they are giving It the survivors award. I have been diagnosed with melanoma, jaw cancer, and also lung cancer over the last ten years or so. I am fighting them all (* well, except I guess the lung cancer as I still smoke cigarettes). I don't want any congrats or hail fellows...no...not for me. You can keep your prayers too, cause I think all you are doing is talking to yourself when you do that. But thats me. I am the one who lives through stuff I guess. Been pronounced dead a couple times... still here. Been diagnosed with Killer Cancer(s)...still here....broken back and missing vertebrae...but still here. I take full credit and responsibility for this. I have fought hard to be able to walk. To be able to go outside on a sunny day. To be able to breathe. I cannot say why I still am. Just that I still am.
Melanoma is a bitch. Simply because your skin covers your entire body and then some. And any of it can show the disease. It can appear anywhere, and in later stages, can infect anywhere. The other ones are tame. For Jaw cancer, I had three biopsies done of a strip of gum tissue from my lower and upper gums. I am missing pieces of flesh, which I did consider wholly needed. Lung cancer...well, as long as it doesn't start to grow, I am fine. With the lungs though its the emphysema I concern myself about. That stuff sucks. It is what killed my grandfather. He couldn't catch a breath. His was caused by smoking and asbestos. Not in that order. Melanoma is the skin, and if unchecked it can definitely spread to other major organs. The skin is a major organ. Most people don't think of it like that, or that it is totally a part of who you are.
I don't mind the scars. Hell, who wants to die without a few?

I believe this generation to be the "I don't care until it directly affects me and then YOU BETTER FIX MY PROBLEM MISTER" generation.
The 'IDCUDAMYBFMPM' Generation (since they appear to like Acronyms so much). I say this with a look towards the history of the American society as I see it, as I have seen it, and as I think it is headed. It used to be, at least in the Cannabis world I frequented, that you had to support it through KNOWLEDGE and exploration and examining the plant, the genus, the chemical makeup....etc before you would even be considered to be 'in the know' about Cannabis. Now it seems no one cares about the history, just how much money that signing onto a cannabis company will fill their pockets.
The latest to execute this maneuver is John Boehner (don't be mislead - The news pronounces it BAINER, when we all know its BONER), who was once a STAUNCH republican anti-cannabis enforcer in Congress. Now, that a cannabis company has hired him on (with what experience due they attribute to this fool? How to cry on TV?) and he says "I have evolved" and from my view it appears to be working. The Cannabis Business structure is accepting him in as a new found soul.
I think they could do a lot better. Maybe hire someone with some experience and knowledge about the plant that is based on EVIDENCE and study, rather than what his Pharmaceutical employers and oil company employers told him. They could have hired someone who sat in a jail cell because of one of Boehner's laws. They could have hired someone who actually knows a person that requires cannabis for relief, as opposed to the opioids that Boehner wholeheartedly voted did not need to have an extended test period for safety (VIOXX anyone?). But they went for the name. They went for the past position. Which, is a shame.
But it does appear to be the direction the industry is flowing. More money brings more leeches.

I started listening to episode #279 and they referred back to a previous episode with more info. Apparently someone stole a car, and then crashed it into someone's garage after a chase. The good news is that the repairs won't interrupt the podcast.

When I was 5yrs old, I was involved in a fight at school. I am not sure why it happened (something about me getting hit in the face with a kickball)but it ended with me on top of the other kid punching him repeatedly in the face and neck. It was the other kids actions that caused the skirmish, but I was the one removed from the classes. I was the one who was scolded for fighting, and I was the one who got the punishment.
Another great example of society and its rules was in High School. I had just purchased a brand new jacket. Not even a day old, when as I was leaving my Social Studies class, a person came up and told me there was writing on the back of my jacket. Something about Black People.
I took off my jacket to find that someone (the black guy behind me in Social Studies) had scrawled in Magic Marker "I like Blacks".
I confronted this person in the next class, and as we were leaving the room to 'discuss' the event, he sucker punched me and stabbed me in the neck with a pencil. I saw blood and lost my cool, barreled into him, knocked him to the ground and beat his face raw.
While we were both suspended, I was out a new jacket. When I returned to school, and the classes, I was the one being blamed for the incident. I was the one people were saying was racist and bad.
When I was in the military, I had a VW Bug that had some braking issues (mostly the parking brake had no 'catch' to hold it in place).
I would put the car in gear, turn the wheels and prop up the E-Brake with a tent stake. One afternoon I was pulled out of class because somehow my car ended up at the bottom of the parking lot and had run into another car (at roughly 2 mph).
Someone had straightened out my tires, popped the stake (and threw it into the back area behind the seat) and pulled it out of gear.
Yet, I was 'the one blamed' by the groups of people that 'saw the thing happen'. Found out later that no one saw what happened. The just heard a noise and ran to the parking lot. So, I owned the car, it was my fault.
Also while in the military, I was driving home and was following the rules of the road, yielding at the sign that says Yield, when I was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling in excess of 50-MPH. It killed me (pronounced DOA on ambulance arrival) . I woke up in a hospital 3 weeks later with no feeling below my gut. It took months of work to get to where I could walk again.
Yet, the talk around the barracks was that I had caused this accident. That because the guy didn't see me Yielding, I must have done it on purpose. (Yes, I did....I did not want to get hit by a semi-truck so I yielded) The story was that I had turned off my lights and my car and was waiting for someone to hit me. Yes, this is what was being said. Not that the guy that hit me was speeding. That he was being reckless and dangerous when he drove. No, the story was that I wanted to commit suicide by car wreck.

Whenever I fought back, I was punished by authority as well as by peers. I was supposed to take the abuse (these are just two of too many incidences where I was involved in a problem) and endure the lies, and be a good citizen.
I always took it as "People Suck". They look for themselves ahead of anything else, but only when in a collective. One-On-One and they can be really nice people. But you stir the pot, mix things up and put them all into a group? Then you are just asking for idiocy.

I hate watching 'Silicon Valley' these days. A Main Character 'Richard' is the problem. I am tired of seeing people obviously walk into failure. Richard, tends to fail a lot. In fact, if you look at the show, all Richard and company do is fail. And they put themselves into the position for failure purposely. Maybe its just weak writing, maybe its the limited ideas of Hollywood. But this show is about failing, and then having others laugh or abuse the character(s) because of failure(s).
I don't find it amusing anymore.

Because its presented to us in the news and the 'news shows' on a daily basis how the current administration is failing. Is a failure. Will continue to fail because they are willful idiots.
And it just makes me nauseous. Not that it takes a lot to make me nauseous these days, but truly sick of seeing 'failure'.
If it is going to fail and collapse...we need to let it. The train is moving too fast to stop now. The momentum that has been structured around this president and his cronies. Yet, the news refuses to just let him fail. They need to document what they did, in that they created, carried, and now are trying to kill this creature called 'Trump'.
Just sick of people thinking failure is funny I guess. And that idiocy is something to just ignore and allow.

Topic: Congressional Email Access by the Public
I realize email is a tough subject when it comes to politicians. However, in reviewing my work area and my Manager/Supervisor/CEO access to MY email, I see a failing of government. When I work for a company / employer, they have complete and total access to my Instant Messages, Email, Bookmarks and links. Hell, they have access to all my documents and code, because I work for them and they own what I create and do.
This is not present in today's politics. Our politicians hide behind secrets and lies, taking payouts and making deals for payouts and favours. How do they do this? They have email that no one can read. Sure, you might be able to file a FOIA request, but you have to specifically state the subject and area of coverage, and then the government decides whether you get access. This goes against every employer/employee relationship I have been involved in. Where I have worked, they have complete access.

So my solution? Make a Read-Only account for all representatives emails and IM's. You want to be in public service? You have everything you do (barring top-secret which is available and encoded) being watched/read and tallied. Your contituents know what you are doing, and who you are corresponding with. Why is this NOT in place?
Why do we as citizens not have the ability to review our representations emails and information?
Because they don't want to show what they are doing. More than likely it is all money-raising reports and other money-centric processes that the representative is involved with all day. But we don't know that. Hell, we can only HOPE and PRAY (and ask the kids in FLA how that worked for them) that our representatives are doing what we the people want them to do.
If there was a read-only account access to their emails (being that they work for the citizens) that could be monitored and checked, we as citizens of that state should be able to see what is transpiring without having to go through 12 different steps only to finc out you spelled theater incorrectly and nothing was returned for your request because of it.
Our president is more than happy to Tweet...but you have to wonder how he would feel is all his stuff was exposed (as would all our representatives I am sure).
They read YOUR emails....we should be able to read theirs.

I saw that story about Roseanne this morning and was just like 'how the hell is this news??'. It's okay to be outraged about things but dear god, let things be. You know, I rewatch Friends and realize that some of it just doesn't hold up well. But that's okay. I am not going to ask for it to be banned or removed or whatever. You watch it and go, okay, we need to not be like that any more and YOU MOVE ON.

A new thing now is to be 'outraged' by a photo or a video from the past where the picture/video depicts some awful horrible thing (right now its Roseanne dressed as a chef in Nazi gear and mustache - why? ) that you NOW feel outrage about because the subject of the photo is *(making a comeback, upcoming star, making a big splash and money) popular and you feel the need to crap on that?
Yeah, don't know how to end that last sentence, but I think my point is made.
"Hey everybody...that person you are cheering?!? Yeah great and all, but did you know...when they were born....a MAN handled their NAKED and writhing Bodies? A MAN. TOUCHED them! OMG...50yrs later I am shocked and OUTRAGED...OUTRAGED I say!"
Its pathetic, but apparently it is what passes for society nowadays. If you weren't outraged XXyrs ago....when whatever it is that you are upset about now actually happened and you happened to miss it.....Can we just call 'Fair Game' and let it go?
We have done it with ALL of our politicians. So why not just leave the celebs to themselves. You don't have to listen. You don't have to watch.

The argument goes. "If you have nothing to hide or any secrets - post your account passwords and let the world see" is stupid. There is no 'Read-Only' option. You have my passwords, you can pose as ME. Thats the fear. Thats the Scary part. Or at least it should be. You can read ALL my mail if ya want. I gotta be the only dude out there that doesn't have a photo of his crotch. I don't converse thru these services. I realize my scope of 'friends' is limited due to this Non-activity on my part. You want to see what I get? I can show you logs. Its crap. Junk Email. Newegg/Amazon/ZoomLwegal/Anything else. If I get something interesting its usually my remider from the vet that my puppy or cat needs a visit. Or there is a sale at REI.
I will show all of this. But I am not handing out any passwords. Because the true power that is being asked is not "What have you done" but "What MIGHT you do next"

Not to say that your life is 'easy' by any means. I mean that time when you feel 'comfortable' with your systems and operations (day to day is not a drudge when you are accepting of what it is and how it works for you) in life and you realize it. You think "Hey, I have things running smooth. No bumps, all my routines are planned and my days are mapped and all I have to do is execute them." That simple point of ...complacency? When you then think, "Hey, maybe I can take on something new...." Because you know...you have everything running and nothing is 'drama' or causing stress/strife in your life at the moment.
Why do we do this? Why can we (or at least me...) not live in complacency. Its not boredom. I know boredom (8yrs military service). Its not...desire? Its just this thing pops into my brain saying "Hey...c'mon...you NEED something to do..." and so the search begins....a search to change what has been found to be adequate....to be enough.
Rarely is the consideration made as to what is to be undertaken as 'new' and how it will affect the current and future schedules and processes. Maybe that's why? Because it disrupts the 'day-to-day' and gives a sense of ...adventure? A shadow of the unknown?

I find that when I got to the Twitter Site (https://twitter.com) And after my Ad-Blockers/Ad-Trackers/Ghostery/UBlock software has applied all of its filters *(and cycled it thru a carefully constructed hosts file) I find it difficult to leave the Twitterverse. Not that I don't want to leave. I click on this site, or another, and the page attempts to exit....and then all it does is refresh. If I try and go to the Mastodon No Agenda Site (https://noagendasocial.com) it refreshes. I have to click on a 'Large Site' (GMAIL, Youtube(Google Affiliates), Reddit ) to 'exit' the hold of Twitter. If I click on a 'lesser known' site (Blues News, WWTDD..) it just seems to refresh the Twitter Page (the app refreshes the page...kind of...) andf I have to select another link to escape.
Curious if this happens to anyone else out there? This is using Mozilla Firefox.

Its funny to me that I have to state all the anti-tracking/advert/metadata blockers...kind of silly...and sad.Whaaaaa?
