Breeder's Description - 'Heavy Duty Fruity'
This strain was developed in Humboldt, California back in the mid 80's. Named Heavy Duty Fruity not only because of it's extremely fruity smell and taste, which are like berries and citrus mixed together, but also because it packs a powerful punch. One of the biggest yielders in our collection. Definitely a good producer of very high quality, fruity bud. Breeders will enjoy working with HDF as it is very stable. Available only from The British Columbia Seed Company.

Since this was a 1st grow to test a small grow chamber, I wanted a variety that didn't need special care when growing, and I wanted to stay with North American genetics. It worked much better than I thought it would. All seeds germinated. Out of 12 seeds I ended up with 6 female and 6 male plants. I let them grow for 8 weeks (they were repotted to 6 inch pots from styrofoam cups at 4 weeks) under 16 hours of light per day, then switched to 12/12. 10 days later you could see that they had started to bud. I let them bloom for 8-1/2 weeks and then harvested the buds. The smell from the plants is always fruity and hardly noticeable. Dried the buds for 2 weeks. The smell of this variety when curing is very fruity - permeating plastic bags when dried. It smells like strong, very sweet fruit. The smoke is smooth and fruity - no choking on this one. The buzz lasts a long time - even feeling it the next day somewhat.

I also grew out some cuttings (clones) and they rooted under 16 hours of regular flourescent (a 20 watt - 2 tube fixture, 24 inches in length) lighting in about 2 weeks. I didn't take that special care of the clones and 9 out of 10 of them rooted and I got a crop off of them as well - but the yield listed in this report is of the original 6 plants only.

The nice high you get with this variety and it's fruity taste is well worth the grow in my opinion. Not only did it amaze me but friends as well. If you're looking for a plant that doesn't need special care when growing, this is the one to grow.

The grow space is 24"x30"x36". The main interest here was being able to grow continuously in a closet - and one can. If you don't smoke much and just wanna supply yourself, in my opinion this works great. 125 watts of High Output Flourescent lighting was used (1 bulb). It's important to filter your power when using this type of bulb or they will not last as long as the rating on the box. I used a closet you can buy at Home Depot. I used Miracle Grow potting soil and Miracle Grow Fertilizer feeding the plants at 1/2 strength everytime they were watered once they were transplanted - which was about every other day when they are flowering. All plants were germinated in styrofoam cups with the Miracle Grow potting soil and transplanted to 6 inch pots at 4 weeks of age. I kept them under 16 hours a day light for another 4 weeks and then cut back to 12/12. They began to blossom in a week. They do stretch a little as they blossom, and pruned as needed to keep the size at 30 inches. These were the 1st plants I'd ever seen with buds at every node on the plant. So the yield was better than I thought it would be as you could harvest as the blossoms finished so to speak.

In my opinion, this variety is easy to grow and has a great buzz when smoked. Definite keeper in my opinion!!
