Breeder's Description - 'Northern Lights #5 x Haze' | | This hybrid is the pinnacle of achievement in Cannabis breeding today. The result: an extremely potent plant with a great Sativa high. At the Harvest festivals in the early nineties this strain was already miles ahead of its competitors. Even today it has not yet been surpassed. The high yields compensate for the slightly longer flowering period. Hybrid vigour provides for lush growth, heavy bud formation and abundant resin. A true champion!
Flowering: 65-75 days. Height: 150-180 cm. Yield: up to 150 gr.

| I am actually halfway through my second grow on this strain, but this report pertains to the first. One of the advertised benefits of this strain is the ability to flower as soon as clones root. I tried this as an experiment with my first grow on this, with two small rooted clones supplied by my partner. They were about 2 inches tall with @4-5 nodes when I received them, and transplanted into a soil mix and placed them under a 400 watt hps in 12/12 mode. Flowers appeared within 10 days on 1 plant which became quite shrubby. The other seemed to stretch just a bit but also looked lanky, and did not show flowers till about 15 days (both clones came from the same mother, so I was a little surprised to see the difference). But quickly both had a nice onset of thick resinous bud with almost no leaf. The shrubby plant definately looked more like a NL type, very short and stocky. The other had a long main cola which needed support in the end but side buds were not as fat. I pulled the indie pheno at 56 days, because it had about 60% brown pistils. Also, I just couldn't wait another minute. I picked the sativa type at 68 days but I would have let it go another few, however I noticed a couple male flowers appearing. Average hieght was about 20 inches. The yield from the indy type was 26 grams dry and the Sat was 25 grams.
The quality of the herb was tip top with a great cerebral Haze high, and also an appendage numbing body stone effect. The taste is not really Haze or NL like, but a citrus sweet sour Tangerine theme. On exhale it's somewhat skunky. The smoke is smoothe but very full bodied and expansive. Very delicious.
Wanted to add that odor wise, this strain really does not smell until about 35-40 days of flower. After that it smells a little skunky, but ONA block gel seems to do the trick.
Garden Information for this report I use a 400w Hortilux and a mix of premium potting soil, vermiculite, and Budswell in flower. I fertilize with General Hydro Maxi Bloom. I also use Fox Farm Big bloom in reduced strength to supplement the GH. 1 drop of Superthrive in every gallon of anything I ever poured on a plant, and a solid two week flush of H2O. PH is balanced 6.3-6.4. |
