| I grew this as a newbie and it was as hardy, stable, squat and low odour as the classic NL reputation suggests, with all the potency as well.
Odour: Oddly, plants smelled more skunky in veg than flower, when they were sweet 'n' low odour. A very sweet 'n' citrusy grapefruit smell, but stealthy. ...continued

| I flowered 2 British Columbia Seed Co. NL#5 along with 3 Sensi Seed Bank Northern Lights. The NL#5 out performed the Sensi in every way. The buds swelled up a lot more, earlier, and had even more resin which is saying a lot cos the Sensi is heavily resined.
This strain is very very hardy and hard ...continued

| Being from the NW I used to get NL#5 back in the day all the time, it was the local favorite for many years spanning the 80s and 90s. Then it all seemed to kind of dry up after BC bud became what you would normally see. So ever since I started growing I have allways wanted to see if I could get a go ...continued

| Well, this was officially one of the most depressing experiences of my life. I spent months planning my first grow and building a wardrobe grow cabinet. I spent $1800 on equipment. I spent 3 months growing the plants. I started with 6 seeds. 1 didn't germinate, so I started a 7th. I got 2 females and ended up removing one of them to give more room to the other.
At harvest time there were virtually no trichomes on the buds, but the buds were very large and nice looking aside from that. The plant grew very well and easily for the most part. It just about doubled in height after switching to 12/12. The plant yielded about after drying 3 oz.
The horrible news is that the plant had LITERALLY no potency. I simply couldn't get high off the bud. Not even a little head change.
I stupidly believed that this was some genetic anomaly, and I decided to grow the last 2 seeds out in my computer case. One of them was female. Guess what... It sucks too. I just harvested and am very depressed. I'm pissed that BCSC could release these genetics. Although I must admit that the seeds were obtained from Marc Emery before he got busted. They were not in special breeder's packaging with logo etc, so I suppose there's a chance that Emery screwed up, but I highly doubt it. I don't know if BCSC even uses special packaging or if they were using special packaging at the time the seeds were obtained. This second plant hasn't been weighed yet, but it looks like about 1 to 1.5 oz.
So my first two and only grows were all for nothing. Totally worthless. It's hard to imagine a more depressing situation given all the months of waiting and all the care and planning and money spent.
I sent both BCSC and Marc Emery emails to explain what happened. Neither of them replied to my emails. That is super lame if you ask me, and as a result I will not be purchasing their seeds again.
Everything advertised about this strain came true in the sense that it was easy to grow, high yielding, short, and low odor. However there were two major things that didn't fit the bill... it took closer to 70 days to mature, and it had zero potency and no THC trichomes.
Garden Information for this report First grow was in a IKEA wardrobe with a 250 watt HPS in Emily's Garden hydroponic unit with GH nutes. Second grow was in a computer case with a 100 watt HPS all organic soil (FoxFarm Ocean Forest). |
