Breeder's Description - 'Northern Lights x Shiva' | | Northern Lights crossed with Shiva creates wonderfully pungent sweet buds with bountiful THC. This plant has high flower to leaf ratio. NL/Shi has a bit spicier smoke when compared to Northern Lights and has a more complex buzz. This strain is a timeless classic. NL/Shi has a exotic aroma, is relatively easy to grow and clone.

Grower Report - The White Rabbit on July 21, 2003, 5:05 pm | | 1 Image | Nirvana NLxShiva was a very nice variety to grow. They branch out quite nicely and often "top" themselves somehow just so they can grow more branches. This was very good for me and it provided for a pretty decent yeild.

| This was my first grow in 2001. NL x Shiva was a great place to start. The plants grew quickly and were very forgiving. I kept the pH around 6 - 6.2 (now I keep it lower). There was only a little diversity in phenotypes, all had fat, triangular leaves.
The males showed preflowers pretty early. I ...continued

| This is the first time I have grown this strain. I really was not sure what to make of this strain, but due to the f'up in my room I needed to drop a few more seeds to max the sq footage.
I dropped 3 seeds into cubes, germed and then planted directly into 2g pots. At the same time I also had 6 ...continued

| 3 seeds germinated and 1 was female. She was average size with tight internodes during vegitative growth. It doubled in height between 12/12 and finish. The plant grew a very large top cola and a very thick stem; it needed no support. This plant was so loaded with trichomes that the buds looked pear ...continued

| Easy to grow, I couldn't kill it as hard as I tried. Good yield. Great smoke, quite potent. The couple other people who've had any have raved also.
I didn't get much taste on this grow, probably didn't flush long enough despite using organic flowering ferts. The first plant harvested at 58 ...continued

| This was my first real grow and I was amazed with every aspect of this plant. Extremely easy to grow, almost like it took care of itself. It loved nutes and was not over-sensitive. The foliage is a beautiful dark green.
In flowering the trichomes pack on excessively. There is a strong unique smel ...continued

| Northern Lights x Shiva is not a new strain for me. I've grown 6 cycles with it which equals about a year of experience with it. The plant is very hardy and will put up with a good deal of abuse. The yield isn't quite up to par with some of the other NL strains I've had experience with but it will produce plenty of budz. NL x Shiva has a fairly high calyx to leaf ratio and produces beautiful flowers that are covered with trichs.
It's been a year since I germed the seeds but I don't remember having any problems with it. I believe all the seeds popped and 2 phenos emerged during veg. I selected the broad leafed pheno after my first run because it produced nice fat SOG style colas and had a better flavor.
Because of the plants short stature it is fairly easy to get tight internode spacing even for a new grower. The plant wants to be a single cola plant without much side branching so it is perfect for SOG. If you do take the time to top and train it it will bush out with a little motivation so it will works great in a Scrog setup too.
I've grown this in a SOG several times. In my current grow I vegged a bit too long so I Scrogged it instead with suprisingly good results.
This is some potent weed. Not daytime smoke. It produces a mixture between couchlock and heady leaning more towards the couchlock. The flavor is hashy with a hint of spice and leaves you knowing that you've gotten the best of the NL and the Shiva world. Overall this is a very pleasant strain to smoke. The potency is top notch. If I had my way with it I would increase yield just a bit and add a little more spice to the flavor but it's still an impressive plant.
If you're looking for a "classic" then look no farther. I've been happy with my results.
Garden Information for this report Well ... here it is. My garden description. (for my flowering room) Lighting: I use 2 lights. A 1000w Hortilux High Pressure Sodium and a 1000w Agrosun Gold Metal Halide. Both lights are using Sunleaves Pulsar ballasts and both lights are in Sunleaves air cooled reflectors. I use mylar to prevent wasted light. Ventillation: I vent my room and cool my room with a hydrofarm 465cfm blower (similar to a dayton). I also have an oscollating fan for air circulation. Hydroponics: I'm an ebb n flow kind of guy. I love it. It serves my needs for SOG and Scrog nicely. I use American Hydroponics 4' x 4' ebb n flow tables with 30 gallon rubbermaid containers for the rez. I've noticed the larger the rez the less you'll have to mess with ph and nutrient fluctuation. Nutrients: I start with plain old tap water. The water where I live has a starting tds of about 190ppm so it works just fine. My primary nutrients are Pure Blend Pro Veg for veg and then PBP Bloom and PBP Soil Bloom for flowering. I suppliment with Dark Energy during veg and Liquid Karma during flowering. Dark energy smells really bad ... I mean 2 week old dead rat kind of bad ... but it makes your plants race thru veg at top speed. Liquid karma needs no introduction by me. It is everything extra your plants need. I keep some Cal-Mag on hand just in case of a deficiency (though I rarely need it). I dial in my nutrients for each individual strain and only grow 1 strain per table. Other Equipment: I use a Hanna PH pen and Hanna TDS meter. Both are waterproof because I have a bad habit of dropping my pens in my res :D |
